Come to Meetings
After the 2019 election, Suffolk for Europe members moved from fortnightly to monthly at Woodbridge Library. However, since the lockdown, this hasn’t been possible. We are now organising virtual meetings via Zoom.
Our meetings are informal and friendly, giving members an opportunity to air their concerns and to discuss the latest Brexit news. The committee provides updates on various up-coming local campaigns and other events, as well as national events. Pro-EU merchandise is also available to buy.
Upcoming Zoom events can be found on the Events and Meetings page.
Volunteer
We need volunteers!
If you want to work with us, or get active in your part of Suffolk, please let us know, by filling out the form on the Contacts page.
Please tell us how you’d like to help. Here are some options:
- Helping EU Nationals register for settled status
- Sharing info on how to lobby your MP
- Join our letter-writing circle
- Using your skills to help the team
This is by no means an exhaustive list! If you have any other ideas on how you can help, please get in touch. We will need lots of volunteers across Suffolk, so tell your friends, too. The bigger we are, the greater our chance to make a difference!
Sign Petitions
One of the effective ways you can help is to add your name to petitions. The more who sign, the more powerful the message. In the case of those on the official government petitions website, any that receives over 100,000 signatures will be considered for a debate in parliament, and almost always are.
Here is current petitions you can add your name to:
- No to a no-deal Brexit. If no agreement is reached with the EU, the UK risks crashing out without a deal at the end of the transition period. At a time when our economy and our NHS are already struggling with the effects of COVID-19, a No Deal Brexit would be a disaster.
- Which? petition to save our food standards. The government is pushing through a new Agriculture Bill which would allow the importation of poor quality food as part of future trade deals.
- Release the Russia Report. This report into Russian interference in our democracy was ready for publication last October, but the Prime Minister has delayed it.
- Petition for Permanent European Union Citizenship is a European Union citizen’s initiative aimed at requesting the European Commission propose a means to avoid risk of collective loss of EU citizenship and rights of UK citizens after Brexit, and assure all EU citizens that, once attained, such status is permanent and their rights acquired.
Please check back here from time to time as we will keep this page updated as new petitions are announced.
Write Letters
Suffolk for Europe has always encouraged members to let their MPs know how they feel about Brexit and how it has affected them, their family. It’s particularly important our MPs hear from local business-owners about how Brexit is hampering or destroying their businesses. We recommend that you write a letter and post it to them, as they pay more attention to letters than emails, but if that isn’t possible, your email will still send an important message. The more MPs hear from their constituents about how badly Brexit is affecting them, the greater the pressure will be on the government to act and renegotiate our deal.

Donate
Please consider donating to help support our fight against Brexit. As Brexit negotiations are drawing to a conclusion, we are ramping up our campaign to oppose a potential no-deal Brexit. Our latest step was to take out a full-page ad in both the East Anglian Daily Times and the Eastern Daily Press, with a coverage of 35,000, with an open letter to MPs asking them to push the government to finalise a deal with the EU as promised in the Tory party manifesto.
