Why is the Brexit Result Sacrosanct?
By M. Burt

I note that Mr Carter does not answer my question, “Why then should we regard the 2016 referendum result as sacrosanct? He evades it by talking about the 2017 General Election instead, the result of which was that our PM did not get the mandate she asked for. Not even that, she lost her majority.

A General Election is not the same as a referendum.  But, if we go along with Mr. Carter’s reasoning and assume that all the votes cast at least year’s General Election were made purely on the basis of Brexit, then we would expect a simple rerun of the referendum to produce at least a 5 to 1 majority in favour of Leave.

Such a result would strengthen our PM’s hand immensely in her negotiations with Brussels.  I wonder why she does not hold a rerun? Perhaps she has been looking at more recent polls such as the online poll held by EADT in the Spring which gave only 42% to Leave and 58% to Remain.
