PRESS RELEASE – March 2018

Ref: Seua11

Cambridge Stays is just one of the regional co-hosts of the Ipswich ‘Let’s Stay Together’ day of action, also known as the Great Eastern March for Europe.

According to chairman Paul Browne: ‘We believe that we can best secure a peaceful and prosperous future for the UK if we are a member of the EU. Being a member of the EU isn’t only good for our economy, but allows us to shape the rules that will govern our trade and industry in or out of the UK. It also magnifies our strength in dealing with social, economic and environmental challenges of the 21st century.’

Across the Eastern region many thousands of jobs in sectors like agriculture, aerospace and the biosciences depend on our membership of the Single Market which the UK was a leader in creating and whose rules and agencies the UK shaped. According to Mr Browne our hospitals, universities and high-tech industries benefit enormously from being able to recruit staff from across the EU, spurring growth and creating jobs.

Paul Browne: ‘Brexit was always going to leave the UK poorer, weaker, and more isolated. With the protectionist Trump in the White House, Xi declared President for Life in China, and an ever more despotic Vladimir Putin using every means at his disposal to undermine liberal democracy in Europe, we could hardly have chosen a worse time to turn our backs on our friends and allies in the EU.

“We say enough! We will not settle for 2nd best. We demand that the parliament and people have a meaningful say on the terms of Brexit, and that we have the opportunity to reject them and remain in the EU’ he concluded
